The veteran of the Great Patriotic War Nikolay Matveyevich Polyakov has died a month shy of his 94th anniversary in Pavlodar. Akim of Pavlodar region Abylkair Skakov, who had visited them today, expressed condolences to the family and friends of the veteran. Nikolay Matveyevich Polyakov was born in Vyazma town of Smolensk region.
In 1942 Nikolay Matveyevich went up the line as a volunteer. In 1944 the young man was sent to Omsk to study to be a driver-mechanic of T-34 tank and
then to the tank battalion to the 3rd Belorussian front. Nikolay Matveyevich liberated Gomel, Bobruisk and others Belarusian cities. In April 5, 1945 the military unit liberated Koenigsberg.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals “For the capture of Koenigsberg ”, Zhukov,“ For the liberation of the Republic of Belarus”,
Order of the Red Banner of Labor, “Veteran of Labor”, “For Development
virgin lands ” as well as the anniversary medals.
