Among ARVI the most insidious and dangerous is flu. Its complications are dangerous.

To avoid possible complications, it is important to take prophylactic measures against the flu. The only effective method against the flu is vaccination. If each of us gets a flu shot in time, he will not have severe complications in the event of sickness.

The epidemiological situation of ARVI incidence in 2016-2017 was tense.

24290 cases of ARVI were registered from October 1, 2016 to April 30, 2017 (33750 cases in the previous epidemic season), including 225 cases of influenza (30 in the previous epidemic season). 85 children and 140 adults had the seasonal flu.

The department and territorial departments organized the weekly monitoring of ARVI and flu since October 1 and everyday monitoring since December 1.

The seasonal increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infection in the epidemic season 2016-2017 was registered in the 2d week (January 5-11), the peak of the incidence was registered at the 3d week (on January 12-18) in 2017. The incidence of ARVI in the 3d week was 223.3 (control 274.5). But the number of patients with ARVI in the third week increased in 1.5 times against the second one (from 1322 to 1677 cases).

In order to prevent the spread of influenza and ARVI, the Decree N1 from January 20, 2017 about introduction of restrictive measures in the medical and educational facilities was issued.

From the 4th to the 7th week the situation remained stable with the incidence rate – 203.2-210.9 not exceeding the control levels.

In the 8th week (since February 16, 2017), the incidence rate was decreased.

In the reporting season there was an early circulation of the influenza virus. 225 cases of the flu ware registered from December 8, 2016 to March 1, 2017. Among them in December 2016 – 16 cases, in January 2017 – 149 cases, in February – 59 cases and in March – 1 case.

2087 people were hospitalized (8.6% of the total number of sick people).

The complication of influenza is pneumonia. The number of pneumonia in the current season increased in 3 (1 fatal case – unvaccinated child against influenza at the age of 3 years).

737 people were examined (3% of the number of sick people), the results were positive, among them 225 – influenza virus, 4 people had other non-influenza viruses (rhinovirus, parainfluenza, metapneumovirus, RS virus).

The only effective measure in reducing the incidence of the disease, complications and mortality from influenza is vaccination of the population.

40 th doses were purchased in 2016 for the money of the regional budget. It allowed immunizing only 5% of the population of our region (children of the closed institutions, old people from the rest homes and invalids, pregnant women, medical workers, children and adults with chronic diseases). 25409 people were vaccinated for the money of employers and 2129 people – on a paid basis.

71 seminars were given and 40 meetings were held during the epidemiological season. More than 90 information sheets were sent to the akimats. Over 2500 lectures were read and 18 round tables were organized.

In the epidemic season of the flu and other acute respiratory viral infections people should not visit public places.

If your child has first signs of ARVI, you should not send a child to the kindergarten or school, call a doctor, wash hands, especially after coughing or sneezing, air and clean the flat.

In the epidemic season it is necessary to remember the preventive measures against the flu:

  1. If you have the initial symptoms of the disease, you should call a doctor.
  2. Often wash hands with soap, especially after coughing or sneezing;
  3. Often air and clean the flat, rooms.
  4. Avoid public places.
  5. Before going out, please, use the oxolinic ointment.
  6. Wear and change masks (in 3-4 hours).
  7. Protect yourself from hypothermia.
  8. Morning exercises, suffusion, good sleep and healthy food. More vegetables, fruit, natural juices and compotes.
